Warm Ups


1. Mr. Ralph Skiano: an overview of the fundamentals of Air, Fingers, Tongue and Ears, plus tools, specific exercises and demonstrations.

2. Dr. Tiffany Valvo: Remain relaxed, centered and focused as you play through her patterns of warm ups. These include drones, intonation work, finger doodles, altimisso work and scales.

3. Ixi Chen: A 5-step warm up that can be adapted to one's needs. From getting into the right headspace, to creating the right balance of power and relaxation, the warm up is to be used as a tool for your daily drills.

4. Dr. Jackie Glazier: guides students through a methodical and thorough warm up with full demonstrations and explanations.

5. Dr. Jeff O'Flynn:  Building Blocks for a good warm-up, includes Listening, creating Mantras for good mental state, Air, Embouchure, Connection, Support and Tongue.

Technique Class


1.Dr. Jeff O'Flynn: Fluid Fingers. Learn how to develop fast, even technique through relaxation, consistency, and creative exercises. 

2. Mr. Ralph Skiano: Articulation. This class includes a series of articulation exercises to give you confidence under pressure.

3. Dr. Tiffany Valvo: Flexibility. Techniques like Sing and Play, Overtones and Glissandos improve your flexibility throughout the instrument.

4. Richie Hawley: Embouchure. The 4-step secret to a great embouchure, explained. 

5. Dr. Jackie Glazier: Practicing. This complete guide to practicing helps you make the most of your time.

Masterclass

1. Dr. Glazier teaches students on the Jean-Jean "Arabesques" and the Miskow "allegretto Fantasia"

2. Dr. O'Flynn helps all students think from a pedogogical perspective while working on Rose Etude #3 and the Mozart Clarinet Quintet. 

3. Ralph Skiano teaches student Alessandro Tenorio-Bucci in "Cinqo Bocetos" by Sierra and Connor Flatt in Weber "Concertino"

4. Dr. Valvo leads students on Weber Concert No 2 and the Solo de Concours by Messager. 

5. Richie Hawley's masterclass: Copland Clarinet Concerto  

Auditions

 

1. Ralph Skiano leads a class on Beethoven 6 and Mendelssohn Scherzo

2. Dr. Valvo works with students on the Dances of Galanta and Brahms 3

3. Dr. O'Flynn focuses on Beethoven 8 and Pines of Rome

4. Today's class is Rachmaninoff Symphony No 2 and Capriccio Espagnol, led by Dr. Glazier

5. The Mock Audition presents feedback from all the faculty members. 

 

Field Trips


1-hour Enrichment Classes take you around the country to meet industry professionals and see into their studios, workbenches and factories. 

1. Brian Corbin is based in Honolulu Hawaii. What makes his clarinets and barrel so unique? 

2. In Salt Lake City Utah, mouthpiece maker Lee Livengood shows us mouthpiece making and measurement tools, and materials. 

3. One of the countries' top clarinet technicians is Melanie Wong.  We are invited into her Los Angeles studio where we learn a couple neat tricks and get insight into what is a true "repair emergency"! 

4. We tour the Los Angeles D'Addario factory where Ben Hauser takes us behind the scenes.

5. Step into the sound world of Historical clarinetist Dominic Giardino who studied at the Hague with Eric Hoeprich. See and hear the chalumeaux, the 13-key clarinet and get 200 years worth of history in one hour! 

Career & Business

The Business of Clarinet a.k.a. A Career Isn't Made in the Practice Room

1. The Creative Habit, with Dr. Valvo explores Growth Mindset, Focus, Procrastination, Goal Setting, Mindfulness and Practice Retrieval

2. Q+A with Richie Hawley: From mouthpieces, learning new pieces, listening to orchestra music, advice to future teachers, changing careers, developing good relationships at the workplace to picking out instruments, this session is eye-opening and chock full of great information. 

3.  Dr. Glazier: Professionalism in Music

4. American clarinetist Jason Denner moved to Germany after graduation and ended up putting down roots in Berlin. He created his own chamber orchestra and is thriving as an expat.
