Warm Ups


Bonus: Start your morning with a Guided Visualization with Ixi Chen to feel energized with positivity for a full day of learning!

1. Chris Pell: A full, organized and methodical warm-up

2. Diana Haskell: The Warm Up, Friend or Foe? When to warm up, and what kind of warm up is best for your goals? From Instrument to Body, to Breathing mechanism, Sound, Technique and Tonguing, Ms. Haskell take you through the spectrum of warm ups. 

3. Anton Rist: The Warm Up as a Targeted Practice Session. Exercises are goal oriented, rather than blindly repeating things each day. Mr. Rist offers a variety of exercises that you can draw from to tailor your warm up to your needs.

5. Warm Up with Amy Zoloto takes the student through Stretching and Breathing Gym Flow Exercises as the key component.

Technique Class


1.Amy Zoloto: The technique of Audition Preparation includes tips for preparing the Mental Game, Exercises for Centering and Focus, Organization and Planning, and the Audition Day Plan

2. Chris Pell: A hands-on, participatory session learning to double tongue

3. Pascual Martinez: Vocalization. What is singing on the clarinet? what do you do with your oral cavity, throat and application of vowels to produce a more vocal clarinet sound? 

4. Anton Rist: What is Voicing? Unique to each player, voicing is our ability to change th epitch or color of a note without changing the fingers. 

5. David Gould: a Q+A style class answering questions about Legato, Embouchure, Hand Position and more!

Auditions

 

1. Anton Rist teaches approaches to clarinet opera excerpts: "Luisa Miller" and "Tosca", as well as the excerpt from Schubert's Octet.

2. David Gould leads class on Beethoven 6 I and II movement solos and Capriccio Espagnole

3. Amy Zoloto's class features students on the Mozart Concerto and Mendelssohn Scherzo

4. A College Audition prep class with Diana Haskell

5. Chris Pell teaches Shostakovich 9 II and III movement solos

6. Mock Audition Day! 7 students perform a mock audition.

Field Trips


1-hour Enrichment Classes take you around the country to meet industry professionals and see into their studios, workbenches and factories. 

1. From Texas, Dr. Andrea Vos-Rochefort joins us to talk about Freeblowing Resonance. She guides us through the Kodaly Intonation Method, and ways to use the ReedGeek tool in an information packed hour. 

2. A visit to the clarinet tech genius Tomoji Hirakata takes us to New York City, where we get a guided tour of the clarinet through history, and learn about dozens of fascinating repair techniques.

3. Heather Rodriguez is the co-owner of Rodriguez Musical Services, based in Atlanta Georgia. Her talk takes us behind the scenes at the shop, and educated students on what it takes to start and own a clarinet dealership and repair shop. 

4. Brad Behn is a performer, mouthpiece maker and reed maker based in Oklahoma. We learn about the tools needed to make and shape both mouthpieces and reeds. 

5. David Gould brings greetings from the South of France with the Vandoren family and reed plantation. We see how arundo donax plant is grown, harvested, cured and made into Vandorn reeds.

Career & Wellness

A Career Isn't Made in the Practice Room

1. Kensley Behel & Meghan Taylor present "Wellness for Clarinetists" citing their research and collected data to inform clarinetists about injury prevention

2., Horn player Mike Thornton works with musicians on performance psychology in the pandemic age 

3.  MET Opera Head Librarian Wend Skoczen presents a talk on the music library as a resource, and the ins and outs of licensing and copyright in a livestream world. 

4. A YouTube sensation in the clarinet world, Michael Lowenstern is interviewed by David Gould about his life, and ways students can create an online presence. 

 5. Mike Thornton returns to wrap up his talk with Part II of Performance Psychology in the Pandemic Age
