Warm Ups


1. J. Lawrie Bloom: A full warm-up, from your breathing apparatus, to Sound and Articulation studies, Finger Motion and Long Tones. 

2. Pascual Martinez: The XMas Tree Exercise is explained and demonstrated, PLUS: Scale sequences with slurs and articulations, Thirds with slurs and articulations.

3. Mark Nuccio: Vade-Mecum starts the fingers moving, Baermann scales, as well as selections from the Galper and Heim method books. All warm-up demos are played by Mr. Nuccio and housed in the Bonus section. 

4.A 5-step warm up that can be adapted to one's needs. From getting into the right headspace, to creating the right balance of power and relaxation, the warm up is to be used as a tool for your daily drills. Body Alignment visualization included. 

5. André Moisan:  The essence of the Warm Up starts from silence. Then we take a conscious and mindful journey through air, sound production and color, to a centered balance of air and power. 

Technique Class


1.André Moisan: Technique, Style and Flexibility. Taught through pieces we all know and love: Pines of Rome, Beethoven 8, Dances of Galanta and Rhapsody in Blue. 

2. Lawrie Bloom: Position and Posture on Clarinet and Bass Clarinet. 

3. Pascual Martinez: Vocalization. What is singing on the clarinet? what do you do with your oral cavity, throat and application of vowels to produce a more vocal clarinet sound? 

4. Mark Nuccio: Hand Position for Agility. How relaxation and proper positioning will help your technique.

5. Ixi Chen: Approaching Articulation:  What is the foundation for good articulation? How forming a proper air stream to support creation of different tongue strokes leads to successful articulation. 

Masterclass

1. Pascual Martinez works on Messager "Solo de Concours", the Mozart Concerto with student performers. 

2. André Moisan on the Castelnuovo Tedesco Clarinet Sonata Op 128 (1944) with student performer Alyssa Barry. 

3. Lawrie Bloom teaches the Mendelssohn Cello Sonata with student Thomas Shermulis on bass clarinet; Kovacs "Hommage to J.S. Bach" with Rachel Beil 

4. Nicolas Baldeyrou works with Alessandro Tenorio-Bucci on "Cinqo Bocetos" by Sierra and Cameron Deluca on the Copland Concerto

5. Mark Nuccio teaches the Copland Concerto with student performer Brad McDade, and Spohr No. 2 with Mimmy Hsu 

Auditions

 

1. Mark Nuccio leads a class on Beethoven 6 and Mendelssohn Scherzo

2. Ixi Chen provides a roadmap to students who are hoping to audition for and be accepted to a music conservatory. 

3. Pascual Martinez works with students on excerpts from Beethoven 8 and Brahms 3

4. A College Audition prep class with Lawrie Bloom

5. A lesson on Dances of Galanta and the Grofé Grand Canyon Suite with André Moisan

6.Nicolas Baldeyrou teaches excerpts from Schubert's Unfinished Symphony and Capriccio Espagnole 

7. Mock Audition Day! 6 students perform a mock audition.

Field Trips


1-hour Enrichment Classes take you around the country to meet industry professionals and see into their studios, workbenches and factories. 

1.We journey across the Atlantic Ocean to Paris France, where Nicolas Baldeyrou will introduce us to his collection of early clarinets.  

2. François Kloc and Nicolas Badeyrou take us on a tour of the Buffet Factory in Paris, with a bit of his-storytelling thrown in. 

3. One of the countries' top clarinet technicians is Mark Jacobi.  We visit his repair shop in New Jersey,  and hear from his protégé Melanie Wong in Los Angeles.

4. We tour the Los Angeles D'Addario Reed factory where Ben Hauser takes us behind the scenes.

5. Step into the mouthpiece world of Ramon Wadkowski, who shows us some basic approaches to his work of shaping and creating mouthpieces. 

Career & Business

The Business of Clarinet a.k.a. A Career Isn't Made in the Practice Room

1. "The Art of Possibility: Creating a Satisfying Career": Boston University Professor Rob Patterson discusses his approach to creating a fulfilling and varied career.

2., Tracy Friedlander is the owner of Crushing Classical, a business that helps classical musicians find and create their own opportunities.  

3.  Dr. Christine Carter has chosen to limit views of her lecture on Motivation. You will instead get a link to her research, when it is released in the Fall 2020!

4. Clarinetist Kari Landry speaks about Finding Your Voice on the Clarinet through her journey creating and running the Akropolis Reed Quintet.
