“Concertist armed for all challenges” according to the musical magazine Diapason, the clarinetist Nicolas Baldeyrou can indeed boast, at just 40 years old, of an already prolific career.

A graduate of theConservatoire national Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he studied with Michel Arrignon, Jérôme Julien-Lafferrière and Jean-Noël Crocq for the bass clarinet, Nicolas Baldeyrou wasted no time in getting noticed on the international scene by winning three leading competitions: the prestigious ARD Competition in Munich (Germany) in 1998, the Dos Hermanas Competition in Seville (Spain) in 1999 and finally the ICA Young Artist Competition (United States) in 2001. He is also a laureate of the Revelations of the 'Adami, the Natixis Foundation, the Bunkamura Orchard Hall Award but also the famous “Rising Stars” program of the European Concert Hall Organization in 2004.

Very precocious musician, in love with his instrument of which he is today one of the most virtuoso and inspired performers, Nicolas Baldeyrou is very regularly invited to perform as a soloist with the greatest European and international orchestras such as the Sinfonia Varsovia, the Bavarian Radio Orchestra, the Radio-France Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Orchestra of France, the Czech Philharmonic, the Tokyo, Prague and St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestras under the direction of renowned conductors including Myung -Whun Chung, Mihhail Gerts, Sir Colin Davis, Kurt Masur or even Claudio Abbado. He is also a recurring guest at the Folles Journées in Nantes, Tokyo and Warsaw and is, among other things, frequently programmed at Carnegie Hall in New York, at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, 

Eager for encounters and new human and musical discoveries, Nicolas now devotes himself to a triple career: first of all a soloist but also an orchestral musician within the Orchester Philharmonique de Radio-France where he was appointed first solo clarinet in 2011, then, also since its creation in 2018, within the ephemeral symphonic orchestra Sinfonia Grange au Lac - an orchestra composed exclusively of soloists from the best European phalanges and conducted by the greatest current conductors, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Gustavo Dudamel .

Anxious to pass on his art to as many people as possible, Nicolas Baldeyrou devotes the third part of his career to teaching, mainly at the CNSMD in Lyon where he has been a professor since 2006, but also through numerous masterclasses he teaches around the world. He was also very recently appointed “Visiting Professor” at the Royal Scottish Conservatory in Glasgow.

An accomplished recitalist, Nicolas Baldeyrou does not neglect chamber music. Founding member of the Quatuor Vendôme, a clarinet quartet with which he has recorded several records, he is an exceptional chamber musician who knows how to surround himself with the elite of his contemporaries. Its regular partners are thus named Bertrand Chamayou, Nikolaï Lugansky, Svetlin Roussev, Antoine Tamestit, Marc Coppey, François Salque but also Alexeï Ogrintchouk, David Walter, David Guerrier, Julien Hardy or even the Moraguès Quintet and the Modigliani Quartets, Ebene, Psophos ...

His abundant discography is frequently acclaimed by international critics. His album Rhapsodie, released by Klarthe in 2015 and devoted to French music for clarinet and piano, has received numerous awards in France and abroad. November 2018 saw the release of a new opus dedicated to Weber (Klarthe) with the Victor Hugo Franche-Comté Orchestra under the direction of Jean-François Verdier. A Brahms album was also released in November 2019 with pianist Geoffroy Couteau and cellist Raphaël Perraud (la Dolce Volta) which won a large number of awards in France (FFFF de Télérama, Choc de Classica, ***** de Diapason) . A last album has just been released in April 2020 dedicated to Schubert's Octet (Alpha). The next project is a contemporary music record dedicated to composers Pierre Boulez,

Finally, his passion for exploring new repertoires and his concern for authenticity in his interpretations naturally lead Nicolas to take an interest in historical clarinets. He is regularly invited by Marc Minkowski to participate in the Les Musiciens du Louvre orchestra, by Emmanuelle Haïm in the Le Concert d'Astrée ensemble or by Emmanuel Krivine in the Philharmonic Chamber.

Officially appointed brand tester in 2004, Nicolas Baldeyrou is also a member of the Research & Development unit and thus contributes to the influence of the school and of the French invoice throughout the world.
